"We were really surprised we won," says Noreen Prout. Prout, Grace Corbett and Mary Reynen came first, winning seven games out of eight at the District 29 (Huron, Perth and Middlesex) seniors' games. The only game they lost was to another team from Seaforth. "The trick is getting the right cards and in bidding correctly," says Reynen. Prout says the team's luck came from the fact they were playing on the day of her late hus- band Gerry's birthday. "I kept saying to myself, 'Come on Gerry, help us," she says. The three say they love the fun and social- izing that comes with cards. "We love our cards all winter. You meet people from all over. The socializing side is important," says Corbett. "We just play for fun," adds Prout. The Seaforth pepper winners will go on to compete at the region- als in St. Marys on Aug. 13. The card -loving women also say they're preparing to compete in the upcoming com- petition for euchre in Zurich on June 14. Last week, Seaforth also hosted the crib- bage event at the Seaforth Legion with seven tables in play. Winners were from St. Marys and Stratford. This week, local seniors will be compet- ing in cribbage, five - pin bowling and shuf- fleboard.
