Seaforth lawn bowlers look
at fixing clubhouse floor, roof
The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club held their
spring meeting at the clubhouse on
Wednesday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Retiring president Rick Wood chaired the
meeting with 31 present. A minute of silence
was held for deceased members of the past
year.
The treasurer's report was given by Marg
Ungarian and secretary's report and minutes
of last meeting of 2006 by Bill Roberton.
Carol Carter thanked members for the
Royal Mint set given to her by the club.
The property committee and greenskeepers
have been busy getting the greens and
grounds ready for opening day which will be
May 21 with jitney bowling on the greens
commencing at 2 p.m. followed by a potluck
supper at 5:30 p.m. and euchre or bowling
after. Neil and Donna Beuerman are hosting.
The property committee is looking into fix-
ing the clubhouse floor and replacing part of
the roof. New carpet is to be laid in the sun -
porch part of the club on Tuesday evening. A
cleaning bee was held at the clubhouse on
Monday, May 14 by volunteers.
The new slate of officers for 2007 will be:
past president, Rick Wood; president, Carol
Carter; first vice president, Cheryl Talbot;
secretary, Bill Roberton; treasurer, Marg
Ungarian; property chairman, Jack Muir;
greens chairman, Fred Tilley.
Free instruction on the game of lawn bowls
is provided to any new lawn bowlers until the
end of June to anyone wishing to try the
game.
In Ontario alone there are over 150 clubs
with over 8000 bowlers in 16 districts enjoy-
ing this challenging and exciting sport so
good bowling to all in 2007.

Seaforth trotter lands track
record at Western Fair Raceway
Runway, a five-year-old son of K M
Lazer, owned by Brian Glanville and trained
by John Muir, both from Seaforth, turned in a
very memorable performance as he scorched
his way to a track record in Monday's $18,100
Preferred Trot at Western Fair Raceway in
London.
The win was the fastest trotting mile
in the history of the half -mile oval.
Driver Ray McLean Jr used Runway's
usual off -the -pace closing kick to fly past the
rest of the field
in a 28.4/5 final
quarter mile.
The duo cruised
home to a six
and a quarter -
length victory in
1:56.4/5.
Surfing
Angus and driver
Brad Forward
was second and
Railroad Ron,
driven by Ross
Battin of
Monkton, was
third.
T h e
clocking erased
the former track
record of 1:57.2,
which was previ-
ously shared by
W i n d s o n g
Braveheart,
Homestead
Dreamer and
Will Sikes.
It was
just the second
win of 2007 for
Runway. who bolstered his season's earnings
to $43, 562 and lifetime bankroll to $216,406.

Dave Verberne was awarded the most sportsmanlike while
