"Kinderoo has never been offered in Seaforth. School's Cool was offered about four or five years ago," Beuermann said, referring to another school preparation course her organization used to offer. Parents felt School's Cool was too long for their kids because it was a full day. Kinderoo, now in its third year, is a more condensed ver- sion of that program. Three days a week for six weeks through the summer, parents and their kids (ages three to five) get used to the routine of going to school. "The parents drop them off in the morning," Beuermann said, "so both children and par- ents get ready for the routine of going to school. Getting ready in the morning, getting breakfast, getting them off to school. Working out transportation issues, if there are any." Once they're there, kids also get accustomed to the routine of having to do things at cer- tain times. The program also introduces literacy and numeracy to the kids. Good nutrition is also stressed. "Every week, the parents get a newsletter and an update on the progress of their chil- dren," said Beuermann. This summer local children and their par- ents will get a chance to get used to school life before starting kindergarten in the fall. Rural Response for Healthy Children is offering their Kinderoo program for the first time in Seaforth. ) "We determined the demand was in Seaforth, so we decided we were going to put it in Seaforth rather than Clinton this year," said program services manager Dorothy Beuermann. She said there were also other factors that led to the decision, including renovations in some Clinton schools that meant they couldn't get a kindergarten classroom. That's important because the program tries to ease the transition from home to school. "The demand is still in the central part of the county," she said, "so it made sense to take it to Seaforth. We can still serve the Clinton, Exeter, Winthrop, Walton area because they can come into Seaforth." Rural Response is also offering the program in Goderich and Wingham. "It's never been offered in Wingham before," she said, noting that they had seen a lot of demand for this type of program in both the Four face charges after break-in From Page 1 marihuana) and one count of careless use of firearm. weapon and lin]I]]Unition.
