It's double or nothing for annual CNIB challenge

Huron County's fast food kings
are at it again - this time it's double
or nothing.
Egmondville's "Pizza Bob" Fisher,
retired owner of Pizza Train in
Seaforth is once again issuing a
challenge to John "Willy's" Bezaire
that Huron East can raise more
money for the Canadian National
Institute for the Blind than Central
Huron during the 10th annual Walk
for Independence along the
Menesetung Trail in Goderich on
Sunday, May 27.
This time, the two are also both
elected members of each of their
respective municipal councils.
Bezaire is deputy -reeve of Central
Huron and Fisher is Seaforth coun-
cillor on Huron East council.
"I'm hoping for more support from
council this year," says Fisher.
While last year's challenge
involved Bezaire cutting Fisher's
lawn with a pushmower wearing a
"certain item of apparel" if he lost
and Fisher working for a week at
Willy's if he lost, this year it will be
double the effort.
"It'll be double the lawn cutting
and we still haven't worked out the
item of apparel," says Fisher, adding
it's "up for negotiation."
Fisher says he only lost last year
because the organizer counting the
totals was "geographically chal-
lenged" and disallowed any dona-
tions from the St. Columban or
Dublin area starting with a "345"
exchange since she didn't realize
some of that area was in Huron
East.
"But, I didn't challenge that.
Instead of breaking John's heart, I
let him win," laughs Fisher.
Bezaire responds that he's not
sure Fisher has a case when argu-
ing he actually won last year.
"I think Bob's been a politician
long enough now to learn some
spin," he laughs, adding he contin-

ues to build his fundraising in
Central Huron around Gwen
Stirling, of Clinton who always rais-
es a lot of money for the CNIB.
"She's the rock on which I build
my fundraising," says Bezaire.
While $14,000 was raised last
year, Fisher raised $2,300 personal-
ly, and Huron East managed to
raise $2,900 in all. Central Huron,
however, raised $3,800.
"I'm driven this year," says Fisher,
adding that he's hoping for more
donations and more participants in
the walk this year.
Bezaire says that while losing the
challenge is potentially more embar-
rassing for him since he's the one
who has to wear "a certain item of
apparel," he doesn't mind a little
embarrassment if it means helping
out with Fisher's fundraising for the
CNIB.
