"We're pleased with the way things are going and are apprecia- tive of the support we are getting from both Carol and John." The funding will apply to the 2007-08 fiscal year. Since the launch of the Ontario Wait Time Strategy in the fall of 2004, the Dalton McGuinty Liberals have invested more than $895 mil- lion for approximately 1.27 million additional procedures in five areas of focus - cataract surgery, hip and knee replacement, cancer surgeries, cardiac procedures and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT exams. Pleased with the local impact of the provincial initiative, Williams anticipated an, expansion of the wait times strategy in the near future. "When the strategy began there was some concern that by putting a focus on these areas of priority, other areas would suffer," he explained. "These five areas were chosen because the demand was there. Pediatric procedures have already been added and although nothing has been finalized, we're expecting others to be added in the not too distant future." Williams also predicted a move towards additional public quality indicators, like readmission and infection rates, which he called "a good next step." "Certainly the Alliance feels that the more information we share and the more transparent we are, the better," he added.
