"I would say there's not a short- age of beds, even with Maplewood's closure," she says. Queensway Nursing and Retirement Home in Hensall was also able to accept a few former Maplewood residents and still has up to four beds available, depending on whether private or semi -private rooms are requested. She adds that many seniors choose to stay in a retirement home during the winter and return home in the spring. Queensway has between 40 and 50 retirement home beds in total. While the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) keeps track of the availability of nursing home beds but not retirement home beds, executive direc- tor Sandra Coleman says she's heard no concerns about a lack of retire- ment home accommodation since Maplewood's closure.
