Munn's trail to be developed
instead of installing sidewalks
tiu,au Iiundertmark
Instead of building side-
walks in the Munn develop-
ment, developer Marlen
Vincent will put $6,000
towards a walking trail
through the subdivision.
Huron East council agreed
May 1 to allow Vincent to
remove the already installed
sidewalks in front of three
lots and instead improve a
walking trail on municipal
property going behind the
houses on the north side of
the street.
"It all boils down to they
don't want sidewalks in that
area," said Public Works
Coordinator Barry Mills,
adding that he's in favour of
developing what's now "a
mud trail without a lot of
direction."
McKillop Coun. Bill Siemon
questioned what the pedestri-
ans in the area think.
"It's safer on sidewalks.
When someone gets run over
in the street, they'll want
sidewalks," he said.
Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler
said pedestrians walk on the
street in the area.
"There are no sidewalks in
city subdivisions and none in
the country and the cars are
going a lot faster there," he
said.
Mayor Joe Seili
pointed out that the
municipality can't keep
up with the sidewalks
that already exist in
Huron East.
"And, in 15 years,
we'll have to do them
again," he said.
The report to council
from Mills said eight
