Egmondvile sewer surveys in

Susan 11 u n d e r t m a r k Egmondville to be in favour of sewers before
moving forward.
With results so far indicating 53 per cent in McLachlan said the results are being kept
favour and 47 per cent opposed'to an environ- confidential so Egmondville residents should

the issue will be referred to the Huron East know how they voted.
"Sitting at 167 surveys is a good response
rate. And, it is a close vote," he
said.
At the meeting, McGrath
expressed concern that if
Egmondville residents decide
not to go ahead with the sewer
hook-up, the environmental
assessment will not hold up if
the issue is revisited later.
"What's the shelf life of that
report? Should the public turn it
down, that would be $150,000
wasted. I would like to find a
comment from the Ministry (of
the Environment) that it will
carry clout in 10 years," he said.
Mayor Joe Seili told McGrath
that the environmental assess -
meet will probably only be good
for five years.
"You know they won't do that," he said of
the request for a Ministry guarantee.
Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan added
that if the community turns down the sewers
for Egmondville, he can't see the issue coming
up again in five years.
McLachlan pointed out that there will be
another public meeting before more money is
water and sewer committee, decided
council at its May 1 meeting.
Clerk -Administrator Jack
McLachlan told council the
municipality received 85 sur-
veys back from the 265 house-
holds in the village by the May 1
deadline but has since received
167 responses.
But, Tuckersmith Coun. Larry
McGrath is worried he's hearing
that Egmondville residents are
not responding with a yes or no
vote because they're required to
sign their names to the survey.
"I don't think they realize that
by not voting at all they're prob-
ably going to end up with some-
thing they don't want. If you're
against the sewers, not voting
could end up being a yes vote," he
said in a phone interview after the meeting.
McGrath said with the huge costs associat-
ed with installing sewers in Egmondville, res-
idents should make sure they express their
opinions.
"A Iot of people are going to be really
stressed financially by this," he said, adding
that he's going to ask the water and sewer
committee to require 66 per cent of spent.

Chem -Dry cleaned Carpets and Upholstery are left sparkling clean
and dry in 1 to 2 hours - not 1 to 2 days. The secret is our powerful
effervescent carbonating cleaning solutions that use just a small
amount of moisture to achieve miraculous results, because the
bubbles do the work. Chem -Dry will never soak your carpets with
soapy cleaning chemicals that can attract dirt like a magnet.
Traditional steam cleaning can dump buckets into your carpet and
pad, creating a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. Chem -Dry
uses very little water, thus creating a healthier environment in your
home. And what's more, all of our cleaning solutions are safe
and non-toxic with no harmful chemicals.
