Kyle Verberne carried the club to a 3-2 win in Game 4 last Wednesday, scoring twice and assisting on the winner by defence - man Dan Graul with 3:10 left in regulation time, giving the Hawks a 3-1 series lead heading home for Friday the 13th. Delhi . had the better opportuni- ties, but didn't get the breaks, and then the tables were turned Friday when the Hawks - after building a 2-0 first period lead - deserved a better fate, only to see Delhi's Andrew Ferguson scoring 6:20 into double -overtime to pull out a 3-2 win and force Game 6. Mitchell had the better scoring chances in this game, but missed chances early - and late - hurt them in the end, as Kyle Verberne, Travis Watson, Ryan Baetz late in the first overtime and Dave Verberne were turned aside by either Davidson or the post. In Game 6, Delhi's captain Jamie Clarke scored 1:17 into the game, giving the Travellers some early momentum. Baetz's power play goal - a power play shot from the left face-off circle - ricocheted past Davidson, squaring the game but early in the second Delhi regained their lead and the momentum with a power play effort of their own. Which set the stage for the third period. Raycraft, who hadn't scored since Game 5 of the Thamesford Yeck Conference final, picked up a loose puck at the side of Davidson and batted it home with 8:30 left in the third period, the team's second power play marker of the contest and the equalizer. Mitchell outshot Delhi 14-8 in the third, and was taking the play to their hosts after the tying goal. Proposed programs or events must clearly demonstrate a direct social or economic benefit for residents of Central Huron. Successful organizations will be required to submit a post project report identifying the use of the funds. The big line was indeed a force the entire post -season, as the two Verbernes were lined up with Jeff Walt on the left side. After a 5-2 loss in Game 3 April 8 to Delhi gave them some momen- tum heading home, Dietz decided to reunite the Verberne-Verberne-Walt trio, and that's the way it stayed through until the end. Mitchell novice girls win silver at provincials The Mitchell Novice girls capped off a ban- ner season winning sil- ver at the OWHA Provincial champi- onships this weekend, consisting of 12 quali- fying teams from across Ontario. The tournament consisted of four pools of three teams. The girls opened the tournament on Friday morning with a 5-0 win vs. East Lambton. D a n i Schoonderwoerd picked up two assists and Brooklyn MacLean earned a shutout. Later that day, Mitchell faced a strong Durham West, having more goals for and then faced Brampton on Saturday to move on. The girls won 5-1. The girls advanced to the quarter finals and faced Orangeville, Saturday afternoon. The game was score- less at the end of regu- lation and was forced into overtime. Four minutes into overtime, Nicole Cosgrove scored to advance to the team to the semi finals on Sunday. Mitchell exploded with an 8-0 thrashing of league rivals, St. Thomas, early Sunday morning to advance the team to the gold medal round. Nicole Cosgrove led the .way with three goals, Neve Van Pelt added two, with singles going to Madison Davey, Lindsay Harmer and Larissa Shea. Rachael Hiemstra, Creasyn Jordan, Alexa Horne and Neve Van Pelt added two assists each. The defensive tandem of Dani Schoonderwoerd, Megan Rauser, Sydney McDougall, Kylie Ward, Morgan Rolph and Ashleigh Jordan were strong in the vic- tory. ic- Brooklyn MacLean earned a well deserved shutout. The girls again met the undefeated Durham West team in the gold medal game and lost 4-1.
