Province honours Blyth Festival volunteers
Volunteers from Seaforth and
Walton are among the 15 volunteers
recognized this year for their service
at the Blyth Festival by the Ministry
of Citizenship.
The volunteers were active in usher-
ing, helping with special events,
donating their time to Blyth Festival
Singers or Blyth Festival Art Gallery
to work behind -the -scenes.
"The youngest of the award winners
were Nathaniel Peel (Auburn) and
Leticia Kolkman (Blyth) who regular-
ly usher at the Blyth Festival each
summer," said Jane Gardner, general
manager at the Blyth Festival.
"We invite people to assist with ush-
ering, office work and committee
activities. There are many fun activi-
ties where volunteers can become
active," she said.
A volunteer orientation is held at
the Blyth Festival on Monday, May 14
at 7 p.m.
Students model
historic fashions
Fashion from throughout the 20th
Century will be featured April 19 when
Central Huron Secondary School pre-
sents "A Walk Through Time," a look
at formalwear both past and present.
The history, the music and the fash-
ions of the time will be featured as
clothes on loan from family and com-
munity members from the Seaforth
and Clinton areas are modelled by
CHSS students.
The evening begins in the CHSS
auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10
for adults and $5 for students and are
available at the school, Tucker's Meat
Shop in Seaforth, as well as at the
door.
Environment team
urges conservation
Hit the lights.
That's what the crew from the St.
Anne's Catholic Secondary School's
environment team wants area residents
and businesses to do between 10:30 till
11:30 a.m., April 20.
Members of the environment team,
including Elizabeth Higgins, Julia
Tousaw, Rachael Scholten, Catherine
Simpson, Heather Thompson, Joel
Grace, Abby Feagan and Michaela
MacGuinty, are promoting the event in
an attempt to raise awareness about
excessive energy consumption.
Volunteers are asking businesses,
homeowners and government buildings
to dim the lights between 10:30 and
11:30 time slot, a time slot chosen
because it is a peak usage time, in a
show of support and commitment to
environmental sustainability.
