As long as there are children
who still think that milk comes
from cartons and food from
grocery stores, the Agriculture
and Water Festival will
continue, says co-chair Kittie
MacGregor.
"We still get kids who don't
know where their food comes
from," she says.
"They're more knowledgeable
when they leave," adds co-chair
Steve Bowers.
The two-day festival - the only
one of its kind in Ontario to
combine agriculture and water
conservation in one festival -
attracted 19 schools, one home
schooling group and 593 Grade
4 students this year to the
Seaforth Agriplex and arena.
But, both Bowers and
MacGregor say they'd love to
see more schools come to the
festival, which was whittled
down from three days to two.
"This year, registration was a
little slow coming in so we
decided to go to two days. But,
we have a 900 -student capacity
over three days so if we could
get more schools out, we could
offer the third day," says
Bowers.
Because close to $10,000 was
fundraised from local farm
organizations, businesses and
service groups, the festival has
no registration cost to schools
