Seaforth Coun. Bob Fisher told council April 3 that the BIA is upset at how Main Street businesses NOW WITH $0 TO GET INTO could be adversely affected by the competition from travelling auc- tions. "They feel it's a detriment to the furniture people on Main Street and they're quite upset about it. They want to see a bylaw passed to stop auctions at the arena," he said. Clerk -Administrator Jack McLachlan said Huron East's arena N IT'S EASY 07 FUSION. managers are gathering informa- tion about auctions in other munici- palities and questioned whether or not they're really banned in West Perth's buildings. Not tit) 5E4 idea," he said. McLachlan added that the policy would have to be in effect also in Brussels and Vanastra but would not be able to control what happens at the Seaforth Agriplex. "If we lose a significant Main Street merchant, that's a lot of $700 fees. Are they looking at the forest or the trees," responded Fisher to the concern about the loss of rev- enue at the arenas. Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler said the auctions might be bringing busi- ness to town. "Look at the number of strangers that come to town for the auction that might come down to Main Street and buy things. I don't think there's that amount being pur- chased up there that will effect the longevity of Main Street," he said. McLachlan said a study will be coming on the subject by the arena boards to council. Huron County ambulance praised for response time improvements Coun. Bert Dykstra (Central Huron) praised Huron County's ambulance services for its faster response times to calls at last week's county council meeting. David Lew, ambulance services manager, noted the figure of 20 minutes 18 seconds for the first six months of 2005 went down to seven minutes and 22 seconds for the first six-month stretch of 2006, which is a "major improvement." He added, however, that a number of storms in February that resulted in road closures had an impact on the newer figure.
