CHSS all -years' reunion
cancelled to
The CHSS all -years alumni
reunion, set for May 19-20, has
been cancelled.
Reunion committee member
Stephen Oliver, a teacher at the
Clinton high school, said the com-
mittee made a decision to "cut our
losses" recently.
"We could see the writing on the
wall," he commented.
"Before the March Break we had
70 registrants, and it jumped to 130
by the end of the week, but the
number we need to have the event
pay for itself was 400."
A gala dinner, dance, pancake
breakfast and a student -versus -
alumni basketball game in the
school's new gym were among the
activities planned for the two-day
event.
"You always second guess yourself
as to what you could have done dif-
ferently," Oliver said, noting the
'cut Iosses'
cost differences between the school's
last reunion in 1993 and the one
scheduled for this spring were sig-
nificant.
"We were up front with everyone
regarding the fundraising compo-
nent, because we haven't asked for
contributions from our alumni in
the past."
Oliver thanked the alumni who
showed their support by registering
prior to the March 18 deadline.
All of the registration fees have
now been refunded, except for those
that were donated to the school's
renovation campaign.
"We could have gone ahead and
hoped for more people, but rather
than shift everything around and
create more work we decided to can-
cel. At this point in time the inter-
est just doesn't seem to be there,"
Oliver added.
