Huron Expositor, 2007-03-28, Page 27News Winthrop couple visits Mayan ruins on one-week trip to EI Salvador Spring is in the air in Winthrop. The snow has really disappeared in the last week. The snowdrops are in bloom and the tulips are poking their heads through the ground. The robins are also hopping around. The Lenten Presentation at Cavan United Church was given by Jim Rapson. Rev. John's sermon was titled "The Pieces of Us Which Die." Greeters and collectors were Jim and Diane Rapson. Following the service, a soup and sandwich luncheon was served by the Board of Stewards with Carol Ann Campbell, Doug Campbell, Ruth Campbell, Lori Goos and Grace Dolmage assisting. Several of the Sunday School classes travelled to Wingham in the afternoon to enjoy swimming time at the North Huron Wescast Arena Complex. Next Sunday is Palm Sunday as well as communion at both Cavan and Northside hurches. Don and Maja Dodds have r urned from a one-week stay in El Salvador. Temper tures there were 35 degrees but it was humid. They took two tours while there. One was a Mayan The Huron Expositor • March 28, 2007 Page 27 Tour where they visited several Mayan ruins, one as early as 600 years B.C. The second tour was a Culture and Craft tour. On this one they visited several small villages where the local people displayed and sold handcrafted articles, souvenirs and food in outdoor markets. On the way to the tours they saw coffee trees grown in rows high up in the mountains. El Salvador is known for its gourmet coffee. Several Campbell relatives from the area attended a Buck and Doe for their niece and cousin in London on Saturday. Attending were Brian and Carolann, Mike and Julie, Doug and Vicki Campbell, Theresa de Corte and Sandra and Terry Morey. In last week's paper my "Food for Thought" had a* error. My "r" in park was mistaken for a "c" so I'll try it again. Sorry. FOOD FOR THOUGHT Remember the good old days when it cost more to run a car than to park it? by Ruth Campbell Garden Tour suggested for town during Doors Open in August The Seaforth Horticultural Society met March 14, in Si•aforih 1-(ortietilturnl Soviet' Northside United Church beginning with a pot luck supper. Helen McNaughton was hostess and had brought "for- sythia" branches in and forced them to bloom. They looked beautiful on all the tables. Margaret DeJong said grace and 32 sat down to sup- per. Bob Fisher, Brad Knight and Barbara Dalrymple were there. Bob Fisher spoke and told a couple of good jokes. Brad Knight showed a film of what "Communities in Bloom" had done for Seaforth last year. The pictures were wonderful. Margaret DeJong thanked the guests and gave them a little gift. Brad gave us a cheque from Huron East. Our colours are to be red and white with the green potato vine, but we must keep it clipped this year as last year it really took over. Beatrice Stoll read minutes of the November meeting and also of a board meeting held at DeJong's on Feb. 28. Dilys Finnigan gave the treasurer's report. We asked that the peo- ple going to Kincardine March 24 give Dilys $9.50, our share of the registration. Eleanor Horst spoke of a meeting in Mitchell April 4 and gave two door tickets to be drawn. Nancy Kale spoke on the Peace Garden and asked for a donation. It was decided to give her $500. The "Garden Tour" was suggested. "Open Doors" in August would be a better time than "Moonlight Madness" in July. Our yearbook was given when we paid our membership. Door prizes were won by Ken Papple, Betty Hulley, Olave Little, Vivienne Newnham, Vi Glanville and Delphine Dolmage. Vivienne Newnham won the two tickets to Mitchell. by Beatrice Stoll Secretary Buck & Doe for Jennifer Marion & Curtis Lawrence Friday April 6 Seaforth Community Centre 9pm - lam A ,c Of Majority • Lunch Provided For Tickets Call: The Marion's 519-522-0707 Leisa Thompson 519-526-1095 Jered Munro Kelly Devereaux tia.Moiti 7, 9:00 pm -1:00 am Music by DJ Seaforth Arena Floor Lunch Provided Age of MajoritY Tickets $6.00 For Tickets 0811519.522-1 BUCK & DOE or Adam for Cheryl Workman Sat.
