Huron East to contribute towards new subdivision Huron East council agreed recently to contribute $125,000 towards the construction of Robert Street in Seaforth to help with the development of the former Seaforth Public School property on Market Street. Developer Brian Barnim told council that Robert Street, which was planned to intersect with Market Street but never built, is actually owned by the municipality. "It is landlocking the subdivision and I can't legally do anything on it. It's not mine to do anything with," said Birnam. Barnim said opening up Robert Street frees up 14 building lots and begins Phase I of the subdivision. He said the project is not feasible without the municipality's help. "Before we fezone the property, we have to make sure there's support financially to make it work," said Barnim. "It's (the development is) cash for life for the town. You will continually be reaping the benefits," he said of the additional property tax revenue to be generated by the development. Huron East has also agreed to pay half of the cost of storm, sanitary sewers and water lines for the project. The deal is conditional on the former public school building being torn down within a year and that the developer pay the remaining construction costs. The funds will come from the reserve fund of the former town of Seaforth.
