games of our lives" to
come second in the tour-
nament.
"It was awesome and
very unexpected. We were
the wild card team after a
team from the east
dropped out and we were
so happy just to be there,"
says Hunking.
The Witches of Broom
won their first game 7-0
against Firestorm, an
Eastern Region team, won
their second game against
the Misfits, another
Eastern Region team and
lost their third game 1-0
to Parr Line.
"That first game against
Parr Line could have gone
either way," says
Hunking.
The Witches then beat
the defending champions,
the Vipers 1-0 with Jolene
Heffernan scoring the
winning goal with 1:37
minutes left to go.
"They could run like the
wind but we held the line
and kept them out," she
says.
Hunking says Parr Line scoring
in the first shift of the final 4-0
game against the Witches "burst the
bubble" for the Witches.
"Before that, we just clicked. We
were the Cinderella team and I'm so
proud of them all," she says.
In the intermediate men's divi-
sion, coach Steve Gibbings says he's
"elated" about the Seaforth Snipers'
bronze medal finish.
"I thought we'd do well but you
never know how you'll do until you
get to the tournament. We were
beaten by older teams and we had
comments that the future looks
bright for the Snipers," he says.
Gibbings adds the team "had a
few issues with penalties" but over-
all, played really well.
The Snipers won their first game
2-1 in overtime against the Seaforth
Cyclones.
"That was the hard part - to put
out one of our local teams right

away," he says.
The Snipers then
won 2-1, again in over-
time against the Wild
Turkeys of Central
Region, lost to West
Carleton 4-1 and lost to
the eventual gold medal
winners Lacombe 3-1.
Gibbings says the
Snipers have never com-
peted at the provincials
before.
The Seaforth
Cyclones, won their first
game 1-0 against the
Vikings but lost the next
two.
Rob Dearing, one of
the organizers of the
tournament - which was
sponsored by the
Seaforth Broomball
League, says the event
went very smoothly "but
it was a lot of work."
"It was well-received
by a lot of teams. The
teams from Ottawa said
they were glad they
didn't have to travel all
the way to Windsor and

"There were excellent crowds and
the facility was really nice - it was a
great place to hold the provincials,"
says Dearing of the new twin -pad
arena in Stratford.
Other winners included
Palmerston Guess Who in the elite
men's division, McMillan Sand and
Gravel in the elite women's divi-
sion,Couvre Plancher in the mas-
ters' division and Windsor Road
