DeJong recognized
by Women Today of Huron
Susan Hundertmark
Because she grew up with her grandfather
living in her house; Mary DeJong says she's
always enjoyed looking after elderly people.
Honoured recently by Women Today's
Women of Distinction awards, celebrating
International Women's Day on March 8,
DeJong was one of 12 Huron County women
to be nominated by their peers and families
for their contributions in the commmunity.
"I don't do anything more than anyone else.
In facts others do more," she says of the
award.
But, DeJong admits she does "a fair
amount" of community work "because I like
doing it."
As a retired nurse who worked over 40 years
both in the obstetrics department and with
the elderly at Clinton Public Hospital, DeJong
also volunteers with Town and Country
Homemakers, the Alzheimer Society, Huron
Hospice, the St. James Catholic Women's
League and the Legion Auxiliary in Seaforth.
She also visits residents at the Seaforth
Manor and the sick and shut-ins associated
with the Seaforth Legion.
"My grandfather had dementia when I was
a child and we had to look after him. I liked
staying with him," she says.
DeJong takes gifts to elderly Legion mem-
bers at Christmas and during their
birthdays.
"I've always enjoyed older people. I
like their stories and I enjoy making
them laugh. It's a pleasure for me to
make sure they're okay," she says.
"I'll try to have a joke or sing a
song. I'm not a singer really but they
seem to enjoy it," says DeJong.

In our previous articles we touched on topics like our professional investment
process and our unique approach to investing in mutual funds. Today we would like
to briefly share some of our thoughts on investing in traditional common shares.
Investing in common shares can take many forms. For example, many of our clients
hold positions in blue-chip companies that have multi -billion dollar market
capitalizations. Alternatively, on a nearly daily basis we receive phone calls from
people inquiring about the future prospects for small companies and penny stocks.
Whether investing in large -cap blue-chip companies or speculating on small -caps
the most important consideration for any investor is the level of risk that they are
taking with their hard-earned investment dollars. Quite often investors only focus
on the potential returns of the companies that they are interested in. To focus
solely on returns without considering risk is a hazardous mistake.
What you con expect from Gary Bean Securities is an evaluation of both the risk
characteristics and return potential of any common share that you are investing in.
Helping us complete this type of examination is one of our greatest assets - the
disciplined CPMS analysis program. This program historically only used by very
large institutional asset managers and mutual funds is now a part of the research
facilities at Gary Bean Securities.
CPMS has an outstanding 20 year track record of sorting the good from the bad in
the common share market. We add a sophisticated tool like this to our research
program for one reason only, to try and help our clients make money.
To review what we have recommended in the past, please feel welcome to stop by
or call our offices to receive copies of our published materials covering different
stock selections. We publish our recommendations so that we have a credible
record down the road and in turn you can reliably track our past endorsements.
