Juveniles thank community for support this season
From Page 13
thanks in a large part to Nurse
practically standing on his head to
keep the Ennismore squad from
scoring.
With 6:32 remaining in the final
period, Matt Fisher sent a tape to
tape pass to Darcey Cook, who was
coming out of the penalty box.
Cook broke in alone beating the
Ennismore backstopper with a
wrist shot over his glove, narrowing
the margin to 2-1.
Inspired, the Stars struck again
at 3:39 with Cook snapping his sec-
ond of the night past the keeper on
a nice set up from McClory.
Overtime would solve nothing,
but forced the game back to
Seaforth for a fifth game on Sunday
afternoon.
Playing in front of a very enthusi-
astic group of fans, the Stars would
hit the scoreboard first. At the
12:36 mark in the opening period,
Darcey Cook would take a feed
from Dave McClory and wrist it by
the Ennismore keeper for a 1-0
lead.
Ennismore would strike back
however, with a powerplay goal of
their own near the end of the first
period.
A seesaw battle ensued,. with both
teams having great chances in the
second period, but the game
remained tied at one going into the
third.
The third period would see
Ennismore jump into the lead on a
two on one at 11:02.
And while the Stars mounted an
incredible amount of pressure -
particularly at the end when net -
minder Nurse was pulled for the
extra man - the home team could
not score, giving Ennismore the
series win.
The crowd gave the Stars a stand-
ing ovation for their effort in the
series.
Campbell attributed the team's
success, in part, to unwavering
community support from both indi-
viduals and businesses.
"Without them, I'm not sure it
would have been as much fun as it
was," she said.
Made up of players from the
Seaforth, Bayfield-Clinton-Hensall
and Blyth catchment areas, the
2006-07 juvenile men's team was
the first of its kind in Seaforth.
And, with just five - overage -
players unable to return, Campbell
is optimistic about next year's
team.
"We'll certainly miss them, but we
hope to see all the others back," she
said.
"We're expecting to put forward a
good team again next year."
