Local firefighters, hospital employ-
ees and lifeguards gathered at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre (VRC)
for a little friendly competition last
week.
Four teams — the Seaforth
Firefighters, Clinton Firefighters,
Seaforth Hospital and VRC
Lifeguards — participated in the cen-
tre's fourth annual Corporate
Challenge event on March 8.
Raising a total of $1,733 in pledges,
the teams enjoyed a variety of bub-
blegum-chewing, puzzle -solving,
swimming and diving games.
At the end of the night, the VRC
Lifeguards claimed first place brag-
ging rights with 11.5 points and
866. The Seaforth Firefighters were
a close second at 11 points, winning
$520.
In third with 9.5 points, the
Seaforth Hospital staff won $347.
The Clinton Firefighters finished
fourth at five points.
All three prizes will be donated to a
local non-profit organization of
choice.
VRC facilities manager Lissa
Berard was pleased with this year's
challenge.
"Everyone always has a good time,"
she said. "It's nice to get the service
groups together in support of our
local charities."
Correction
In an article last week about the
Huron County Federation of
Agriculture meeting with Huron -
Bruce MP Paul Steckle and Huron -
Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell, farmer
Bev Hill was incorrectly quoted as
saying agriculture gets. seven per
cent of the Ontario provincial bud-
get. In fact, agriculture gets .7 per
cent of the provincial budget, com-
pared to 1.4 per cent five years ago.
