March l9th, 2007, for presentation of the Annual Report for 2006, to elect Directors and to transact any business that may rightly come before the meeting. Election of two Directors for a three year term will take place. The Directors whose term of office expires are Joe Chaffe and Morris Willows, both of whom are eligible for re-election. Formerly a Stanley Township Reeve and Huron County Warden, Steckle has been the MP of Huron -Bruce since 1993. And while his last election was the closest in his career, Steckle said the 889 -vote win over Conservative candidate Ben Lobb, didn't have an impact on his decision to retire. "In fact, it would have been the reason for me to go on," he added. "I always love a challenge and I never walk away from a fight." That same day, Steckle's long-time executive assistant Greg McClinchey said he would be seeking nomi- 'hation in the Huron -Bruce Federal Liberal Association. Steckle said he's been con- sidering retirement for the last couple of years. "Paul's approaching his 30th year... that's quite a long record of public service. There's a time to come and a time to go, and everyone' s entitled to make that decision on their own terms," com- mented Nick Whyte, president of the Huron -Bruce Federal Liberal Association. And while he plans to spend mote time with his family, Steckle said he will continue to be involved with the local Liberal association and the next federal cam- paign. "I'm riding into the sunrise... the sunset will come later," he explained. "I hope to work hard for the candidate com- ing f bard in the next elect -ME I will be look- ingover this person's shoulder and offer guid- ance through some of the lessons I have learned." "I have endeavoured to help represent the interests of the people of Huron -Bruce, be it at local. council or at the federal level and I am eager to contin- ue with this work in the weeks, months, and years ahead." And while he is happy to see McClinchey enter the local nomination race, Whyte — who is also a member of the associ- ation's candidate search com- mittee — encouraged others to do the same. "No one else has yet said definitely that they are going to seek the position, but a cou- ple of people have showed an interest and I hope they do," he said. A Huron -Bruce Federal Liberal Association}„ nomina- tion meeting is being planned for the "near future," Whyte added. "The average minority gov- ernment lasts about 18 months.
