The book was brought to council by local business- man Pete Klaver who asked council to become leaders on environmental issues. "This is one of the success stories for smoke detectors. The smoke detector saved their lives for sure and we were able to stop the fire before it spread," said Bedard. He said that while the cause of the fire has still not been deter- mined, firefighters ruled out the woodstove since it began in the porch used to store firewood.
