at the Clinton arena.
Central Huron Reeve Bert
Dykstra said the Hurricanes'
request would likely fit under the
municipality's donation fund
requirements.
However due to the timing of the
meet, clerk -administrator encour-
aged council to consider the request
separately at the March committee -
of -the -whole meeting.
Coun. Alison Lobb asked Million
to submit a list of Central Huron
team members to council.
"If half of the kids are from
Central Huron that will make a real
difference in my decision. I look for-
ward to seeing the list," she said.
Past Division III championship
meets have been held in Etobicoke,
Sudbury and Brantford.
Formed in 1990, the Huron
Hurricanes Aquatic Club (HHAC) is
a non-profit, independent sports
organization that,promotes and
teaches the sport of competitive
swimming in Huron County.
The team's roster for the 2006-07
season features 50 swimmers, rang-
ing from beginner to competitive.
According to club president Sally
Vaessen a number of fundraisers
are in the works, including Subway
days, mint smoothie sales, garage
sales, 911 sign sales and a youth
dance.
On Feb. 22, March 15, and April
12, the HHAC has struck a deal
with the Subway restaurant in
Goderich that will see 50 cents from
every six-inch sandwich, and $1
from every foot -long go towards the
campaign goal.
"It's a pretty easy way to support
us. Just go out and eat a sub that
day," said HHAC vice-president
Rose Heinbuch in a recent Goderich
Signal -Star article.
For those who want to get
straight to the heart of the effort,
the HHAC is offering free hour-long
stroke technique or swim lessons for
every $100 donation made to the
club.
"The pre -booked lessons can take
place at either the Goderich YMCA
or Vanastra Recreation Centre loca-
tion," Heinbuch said.
Area businesses have also been
approached regarding sponsorship.
"Every little bit helps," Vaessen
added.
A similar presentation was made
to Goderich council on Feb. 5. Sally
Vaessen said she has been in touch
with Bluewater and Huron East.
