offered a third
time in Huron East
Doors Open will be held
for a third time in Huron
East this August.
The event, which wel-
comes visitors to tour his-
toric buildings throughout
the region, will be held in
Seaforth on Monday, Aug.
6 and Sunday, Aug. 18 in
Brussels.
Huron East economic
development officer Ralph
Laviolette says that while
Seaforth will hold its
Doors Open event alone,
Brussels will team up with
Wingham and Blyth.
"Wingham and Blyth
held a Doors Open event
last October and decided
to pool their resources
with Brussels to give peo-
ple more to look at than
one small town," says
Laviolette.
While Seaforth will
again offer its 90 -page
Doors Open Huron East
brochure to visitors, a
second historical publi-
cation will also be
offered featuring
Seaforth's Main Street
and other historial
homes and buildings in
town.
"The new brochure
provides a walking tour
up and down Main
Street, along with
Victoria Park, the
Roundhouse at the fair-
grounds and Maplewood
Manor," says Laviolette.
"As well, we'd love to
have all the designated
private homes in
Seaforth included in the
booklet," he says, adding
that he still has to
approach current owners
of the historic homes for
their permission.
There are 14 private
homes designated as his-
torically significant in
Seaforth.
Laviolette says all of
Seaforth's Victoria Park
is designated but points
out that the bandshell is
a smaller version of the
bandshell at Toronto's
Canadian National
Exhibition (CNE)
grounds.
He says 50 copies of
the Main Street walking
tour brochure will be
printed originally but a
second printing will pro-
duce 2-3,000 copies "when
the information is as com-
plete as possible."
A Main Street walking
tour brochure is also being
investigated for Brussels,
which Laviolette says "has
an equally interesting
downtown streetscape."
However, because of
fires in the Brussels down-
town in the past, some of
the records of the older
buildings were burnt and
will be hard to piece
together.
"We want to do a
research project up there
and learn the living histo-
ries from various people
but that takes time and
effort," he says.
