metre free style, open 100 metre -
free and the open 100 -metre indi-
vidual medley.
Aiden Barnett and Sarah Vaessen
both swam the open 50 -metre free
style and the open 200 -metre indi-
vidual medley. Barnett also swam
the open 100 -metre free style
Nick Vaessen swam in the open
200 -metre individual medley.
Val Otten qualified for the open
50 -metre free style and open 100 -
metre breast stroke.
The St. Anne's junior team had
four individual qualifiers. Jessica
Sparling swam the 50 -metre free
style, Jenna Maaskant swam the
50 -metre fly, Jessica Van Aaken
swam the 50 -metre breast stroke
and Julia Bakker swam the 50 -
metre back stroke.
Scot Ferguson, Theresa Bakker
and Shawn Reinink each swam in
two SWAD events, the 100 -metre
free style and the 50 -metre back
stroke.
Victoria Poelman, Loretta
Steeper, Amanda Wondergem, Tom
Morris, Robyn Lobb, Nick
McGillvery, Mike Dalton, Kim
Hogervorst, Sara Steeper, Hailey
Arts and Katherine Hogervorst
made up the St. Anne's relay team.
CHSS sent six swimmers to the
meet, including Jocelyn Bartliff,
who competed in two open events —
the 100 -metre free style and the 50 -
metre free style.
In the senior division, Adam
Braecker and Matt Fisher swam in
the senior 100 -metre breast stroke
and Caleb Ringgenberg swam the
50 -metre free style.
Juniors Alex Cardno and Kody
Jacobs swam the 50 -metre free style
and 50 -metre back stroke, respec-
tively. Both swimmers are new to
the team this year.
Starting at 22, Middleton said the
CHSS team's numbers have dwin-
dled to 17, which is still a fairly
large team for the school.
"When you consider the extra nine
that didn't go to WOSSAA are new-
bies, in Grades 9 or 10, it's been a
pretty good year for growth," he
said, crediting the team's success in
part to Wendy Million and Julia
Pettapiece, who helped coach the
swimmers.
Both Middleton and Van Osch
said they hope to see the Huron -
Perth meet scheduled earlier in the
season next year.
"The same thing happened last
year. It's kind of a bummer,"
Middleton added.
