"Species diversity is one of our recommendations for successfully planting trees and wisely planning for future conditions," said Jean. "Other ways landowners can max- imize their chances of success are through thoughtful planning, site preparation, matching trees to site conditions and using stock from locally -sourced seed." ICK REIN ARPENTRY ma 1 Landowners can receive more details about successfully planting trees on their property by attending an information workshop called `Planting Trees in a Climate of Change' on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Masonic Hall, Exeter (248 McConnell Street, north end of Exeter, behind the Huron OPP sta- tion and McDonald's). Landowners interested in planti- ng trees will learn about funding programs they may be able to access to help cover the cost of their planti- ng project. Each year, thousands of trees are planted in the watershed through projects along watercourses, between farm fields, around farm- steads and on eroding soil. This increases forest cover by more than 100 acres each year.
