Seaforth Storm sends three teams into
championship games at ringette tourney
Jeff Heuchert
While a storm was raging outside
this past weekend, inside the
Seaforth arena, the Seaforth Storm
girls' ringette teams were hoping to
do the same.
And they almost did.
Three of Seaforth's four teams
advanced to the championship
games during the 22nd annual
Seaforth ringette tournament, but
all failed to come away with wins.
Seaforth's novices finished pool
play with a perfect 3-0 record, but
lost to Exeter in the finals 6-5.
The petites entered the finals the
number twoLseed behind Goderich,
who went on to win the finals 5-3.
The petites finished with an over-
all record of 2-2.
The tweens lost their champi-
onship game to London 4-3.
Seaforth's tweens were the num-
ber one seed heading into the finals
after finishing 3-1.
Seaforth ringette president Kevin
Campbell says both the petites and
tweens had beaten the teams they
lost to in the finals earlier in pool
play on Saturday.
"They were all so close, they could
have gone either way," adds
Campbell of the three finals.
Seaforth's ladies' team failed to
win a game at the tournament, fin-
ishing 0-3. The ladies' champi-
onship game between Waterloo and
Cambridge on Sunday was the only
game of the tournament to be can-
celled.
It was a busy two days of ringette.
Twenty games were played over 21
hours.
Win or lose, Campbell says the
tournament was another success,
thanks to great sportsmanship from
all the girls and the great effort
they all put forward.
Campbell adds that with Seaforth
playing in each of Sunday's finals,
even with the bad weather, each of

the championships games was well
attended.
He says despite coming away
without any wins in the finals,
Seaforth played strong and the
tournament puts them in a good
position heading into the play -
downs, which commence next week-
end, followed by the regionals in
late March.
Kids advance to London
Two Seaforth students will
advance to a zone competition next
month in London after winning the
annual Knights of Columbus free
throw competition at St. Anne's
Saturday.
Jordan Pepper, 9, and Brianne
Higenell, 12, both of Seaforth Public
School were among the winners.
Volunteer Jim Sterner, of
Wingham, said the 40 competitors
were consistent with past competi-
tions, which have become a Huron
County tradition over the, last
decade.
