Ringette teams coming for tournament Jeff Heuchert Nine teams, consisting of over 120 girls and women, will make their way to Seaforth this week- end for the 22nd annual Seaforth ringette tournament at the Seaforth arena. Players from Goderich, Exeter, Forest, Waterloo and Kitchener will join girls from Seaforth's minor ringette system for the two-day event, which begins this Saturday, Feb. 3. Seaforth ringette president Kevin Campbell says Seaforth's girls travel to around two or three tournaments each season. However, it's this tournament they always look forward to the most. "It's great for them to be host- ing a tournament...and it's great for the town of Seaforth and the local association," he adds. All of Seaforth's teams will par- ticipate in the tournament except for the belle girls, since not enough belle teams regis- tered. See SIX, Page 16 Busy two days of broomball in Brussels Jeff Heuchert It was a busy two days of broom - ball this past weekend in Brussels that saw Seaforth-based teams come away with wins and losses in finals on both the men's and women's side of the competition. In the men's A final, the Seaforth Cyclones fell to the Arthur Orangutangs 2-0, while the Seaforth Hurricanes defeated the Seaforth Royals 2-1 in the B final. On the women's side, Seaforth Parr Line defeated Seaforth Polar Ice 1-0 in overtime to win the finals. Tournament organizer and Cyclones player Claude Poirier said the tournament was a success, despite the low turnout of women's teams. "It went well. We got a fairly good response from who was there," said Poirier, noting they had as many as 40-50 fans watching during the Seaforth and Windsor juvenile teams' games. The Cyclones advanced to the A finals after defeating the Seaforth Hitmen A in double overtime. However, during the game, three of the Cyclones players suffered injuries, which Poirier said ham- pered the Cyclones a short time later in the A finals. "(The injured players) played in the finals, but mostly just stayed back. They were on the bench more than the ice," he said. Poirier added that once Arthur secured a two -goal lead they were able to sit back on defence and forced Seaforth to try and break through, which they couldn't do. In the men's B final between Seaforth's Hurricanes and Royals, the game was decided with only .6 seconds left in the third period, when the Hurricanes netted the winning goal. "The Hurricanes just kept shoot- ing and shooting and they finally got one in. The game was going to overtime and it could have been a different story," said Poirier. See PARR LINE, Page 16
