The Seaforth Manor raised over $500 for the walk, with its largest contributor being Pat Ryan who raised $256. The event in Seaforth raised $2,100 this year, down by close to $1,000 from last year, said volunteer Arlene van den Akker. Huron FHT still looking for executive director, RN, nurse practitioners and administration Susan Hundertmark The position of executive director is back on the list of positions to fill for the Huron Family Health Team (FHT) in Seaforth after Jane Falconer resigned last week. "She left for personal reasons. It was a total surprise to us," says Ralph Laviolette, Huron East's economic development officer and advisor to the FHT. Along with the executive director position, Laviolette says the FHT is also still looking for a replacement for its nurse prac- titioner who is currently on maternity leave until November, a registered nurse and adminis- trative assistants. The FHT has received Ministry of Health funding for operating costs until the end of March, when Laviolette hopes to convince the province that the Huron FHT actually needs two nurse practitioners. says Laviolette. He says that depending on the severity of the health problem, he believes a nurse prac- titioner should be able to help 70 to 80 per cent of the orphan patients currently seeking care. "They would pass to the doc- tors only those who need doctor care," he says. As well, Laviolette says the FHT is still waiting to hear how negotiations are going for a facil- ity to accommodate it. "The family health team will need a fair amount of space that isn't currently available any- where," he says. Huron East Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan told council last Tuesday that he is still hav- ing discussions with the Seaforth Community Development Trust and the Seaforth Community Hospital Trust about a facility for the FHT. "Nothing is completely ironed out but it appears having us take over the current building `Nothing is completely ironed out but it appears having us take over the current building might be the best course of action,' -- Huron East Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan "We're getting a fair number of orphans - in the 100s - wanting to get an appointment and we're going to make a plea for two full-time nurse practitioners to get rid of the backlog and get those people hooked up with some quality healthcare," might be the best course of action," he told council. "Nothing is finalized yet but we are work- ing towards our goal," said MacLellan.
