CEO Andrew Williams
told the Alliance board
at its Seaforth meeting
last Thursday that
hospitals in Stratford
and St. Marys are
starting to see the

"This is the largest
technical installation
in quite some time and
overall people are quite
pleased. It will be a
tremendous asset to
the community," he

Williams said getting

The recent passing of the
38th President of the
United States Gerald R.
Ford brought back a wave
of memories for many U.S.
citizens, but also sparked
memories for a number of
past members of the
Seaforth All Girls'
Marching Band.
The year was 1976, and
the United States was
celebrating its
Bicentennial.
In Fort Myers, Florida,
marching bands from across
the U.S. had gathered for
the 35th annual Pageant of
Light - a week-long
celebration that featured
band competitions, parades
and other entertainment.
Of all the bands that
would perform throughout
the celebration, only one
had come from Canada - the
Seaforth All Girls'
Marching Band (then led by
bandmaster George
Hildebrand).
The band spent time at a
local high school, took in
the sights at Disney World
and competed in a field and
parade competition, all
prior to their planned
performance during the
celebration's finale - the
Grand Parade of Light in
the evening.
But, before they could
begin planning for what
they thought would be their
final performance, it was
announced President Ford
would be making a
whirlwind three-hour
campaign stop in Fort
Myers, before boarding a
plane for Miami later that
day.
And, the Seaforth All
Girls' Marching Band, along
with the local high school
band, were asked to
perform in front of the

Huron East
saving
money
on snow
removal
Jeff Heuchert
The unusually high
temperatures this winter and
lack of any substantial -
snowfall, has been good news
not just for travellers in Huron
East.
Thanks to the mild
December weather, the
municipality is reporting
savings of $22,000 from its
snow removal contracts and
materials and supplies budget
for 2006.
Budgeted at $128,000, the
municipality's snow removal
expenditures for 2006 came in
at only $106,565, says Huron
East Deputy -Clerk Brad
Knight.
"If you look at our December
2006 (expenses) of $22,658
versus December 2005, there
is a difference of $16,205, so
there has definitely been some
savings," says Knight.
He adds that while the
municipality has contracts
with three area companies, The
majority of snow removal is
done by the municipality itself.
Knight said that since the
weather has been cooperative,
the municipality has kept up
on other work - mainly grading
roads in some rural areas and
catching up on tree trimming
and other small maintenance
jobs.

Ryan Construction, which
services Grey Ward for the
municipality, says his company
