Ontario Health Minister George
Smitherman. "One will be more
clinical and one will be more com-
munity -driven. They can go in their
own directions and it will give back
to what each community needs,"
said Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell the day after the meeting.
With a love for athletics, Tymen
DeWeerd, of Seaforth, entered last
week's MedQUEST camp leaning
towards a job as a team trainer or
paramedic. But, after some hands-
on time job shadowing a physiother-
apist, he's really interested in phys-
iotherapy now. The MedQUEST
camp, held last week in Seaforth,
gave 25 Grades 10 and 11 students
from Huron and Perth Counties a
close-up look at various medical
careers.

The inauguration of the Huron
Family Health Team (FHT) in
Seaforth will be celebrated at a
wine and cheese party next
Tuesday, Aug. 8. In anticipation of
seed money being received from the
province later this week, the ad hoc
committee that's taken over from
the steering com-
mittee after the
business plan
was sent to the
province, is hold-
ing a celebration
and information
night about next
steps for the FHT
in Seaforth.
Golfers at
Seaforth Golf
Club were being
asked to be care-
ful of a manure
spill that had
made its way last
week into the

and fourth holes.
The spill into the

ment adjacent to the Seaforth
Community Hospital was discussed
at a meeting at town hall last week.
The land being considered - 66
acres of farm land just north of the
Seaforth Medical Centre, is owned
by the Hospital Trust.
Judgement day arrived for
Seaforth last Friday, as the town
welcomed the judges for the
Communities in Bloom competition,
and months of hard work put into
beautifying the community, was
finally put to the test. The judges
were given royal treatment upon
their arrival in Seaforth - the last of
the judges stops - after visits to
communities in British Columbia,
Alberta and Manitoba.
While Huron East council decided
last August to move the Seaforth-
area compost facility from
Harpurhey to the Tuckersmith
gravel pit on Roman Road, Seaforth
Coun. Joe Steffler wants it to
remain in Harpurhey.
"I think the decision we made is a
bad decision, especially for the
senior people in town," said Steffler
at Huron East's Aug. 22 meeting.
A $50,000 provincial grant will
help to fund improvements at the
Seaforth Medical Centre.
Announced at a press conference at
the Seaforth Community Hospital
on Friday with Huron -Bruce MPP
Carol Mitchell in attendance, the
grant through the Ministry of
Agriculture and Food and Rural
Affairs will go towards a pilot pro-
ject that includes computer
upgrades for patient records, an
improved waiting room and long-
term asset planning.

Seaforth's tourism booth has seen
an average of 125 to 175 people for
each of the three months it's been
open this summer, says economic
development officer Ralph
Laviolette.
"The exercise is going very well. I
think Main Street is seeing visitors
it wouldn't otherwise have seen
(without a tourism booth)," he says.
Eighteen years ago, McKillop
Township was having a tough time
filling the positions on its council
and had to extend its nomination
deadline by three days. Sharon
