At council's last regular meeting Nov. 21, Huron East Deputy -Clerk Brad Knight suggeted what the rates should look like if they are to cover the costs of upgrades to water systems in Brussels, Brucefield, Vanastra and Seaforth/Egmondville within the 10 -year window that was established in 2003. ' Knight said water rates in Seaforth/Egmondville are difficult to set, since a number of upgrades to the water system are not yet complete. He suggested the Seaforth water rates be increased by $4.50 per month (to $25) and the sewage rates by $4.64 per month (to $25.76). • "These increases would bring a 20 per cent increase in revenues for the water and sewer," said Knight. But, because the watershed report card gives the public specific information about the health of its local ecosystem, Mari Veliz, ABCA Healthy Watersheds Specialist, says she's optimistic people will be motivated to make improvements. "When people see their little area, from an ecosystem perspective, f think people will be able to see the changes they need to make," she said Friday at the report card's unveiling. Both Ausable and Bayfield River watersheds received mostly Cs for water quality and Ds for forest cover - marks shared by the Bayfield Headwaters in the Seaforth area. The Main' Bayfield watershed between Clinton, Vanastra and Bayfield, received a B for its forest conditions and a C for water quality. The report card divides the ABCA region into 16 small watersheds, few of which have good forest conditions since agriculture and urbanization have cleared See AREA, Page 2
