Seaforth hosts junior curling bonspiel

With the emphasis on simply hav-
ing some fun, young curlers from
Seaforth, Exeter and Goderich hit
the ice at the Seaforth Curling Club
this past Sunday for a junior bon -
spiel.
"We like to think of it as more of a
funspiel, than a regular bonspiel,"
says ,Connie Trotter, one of several
volunteers that helped organize the
event.
The bonspiel attracted eight
teams; one from Goderich, three.
from Exeter and the remaining four
from the Seaforth club.
In all, the curling club was host to
32 curlers, ranging in age from
seven to 16.
Final point standings for the 9
a.m. draw were, in first place,
Jessica Menary's team, from
Seaforth with 20 1/4 points; in sec-
ond, Richard John's team, from
Exeter with 17 1/2 points and in
third, Tommy McGrath's team, from
Seaforth with 11 3/4 points.
In the 11 a.m. draw, winners were,
in first place, John Glanville's team,
from Goderich with 23 points; in
second, Avery Bennewies' team,
from Seaforth with 14 1/4 points
and.in third, Thomas Benoit's team,
from Exeter with 10 points.
Trotter says the bonspiel was a

great lea -ming experience, since
many of those who did participate
are new members to the clubs and
are still learning the game.
"Some of our young curlers were
reluctant to participate, but we
emphasized it was for fun and to
meet new players," she adds, noting
that for those more experienced
curlers, the bonspiel was also a
great opportunity to familiarize
themselves with area competition.
Being the first time the current
Seaforth Junior Curling Club coach-
es and helpers have hosted a bon -
spiel, Trotter says they were not
sure what sort of response they'd
get, but that they were more than
satisfied.
