Clinic to be
held again
in Fisher's
memory
After the great
response to last year's
blood donor clinic in
memory of Mackenzie
Fisher, the Dec. 4. clinic
will again be held in
Mackenzie's memory.
"To me, this is more
so Mackenzie isn't
forgotten," says
organizer Nancy
Denham.
Last December,
Mackenzie, who died
from leukemia at age
18 last September, was
the inspiration for close
to a dozen first-time
blood donors and
numerous lapsed
donors who hadn't
given blood for close to
five years. Of the 146
units of blood collected,
two more than the
target of 144, 17 were
first-time donors.
Denham says the
appointments to give
blood are filling up fast
for the Dec. 4 clinic but
that those who can't get
appointments should
still try to give as drop-
in donors.
The clinic at the
arena from 1:30 to 8:30
p.m. will again offer
cards to send a
message to the Fisher
family..

Suncor continues testing for McKillop wind farm
Jeff Heuchert
Facing recent restrictions
on building new renewable
energy projects in the area,
Suncor Energy, the Alberta -
based company that erected
a test tower in McKillop over
a year ago, will continue to
move forward with testing,
says Chris Scott, renewable
energy engineer with the
company.
The tests are being done to
determine if four county
blocks in McKillop, bordered
by Hydro Line Road, Roxboro
Line, Hensall Road and
Summerhill Road, would be
a suitable location for a 40 -
tower wind farm.
Under the current
restrictions, the Ontario
Power Authority (OPA) says
they will only sign onto
contracts with micro -scale
generators, that produce no
greater than 10 kilowatts.
Scott says a wind farm the
size they are considering for
McKillop, would be "well
above that."
"At this time we are trying
to determine how these
restrictions will affect us,"
says Scott, who adds Suncor
is currently in the process of
discussing the matter with
the OPA to determine how
long these restrictions may
be in effect.
