up of local mothers pose for `Yummy
Mummies' calendar to raise money for daycare

Facing the challenge of coming up
with a creative fundraiser for the
Seaforth Co-operative Children's
Centre, a group of local mothers
found their inspiration overseas.
"We .remembered the Women's
Institute members who had made a
saucy calendar to raise funds for
cancer research," explains Rebecca
Doyle, of Egmondville.
"So we've adapted it (the idea) and
given it a Canadian flair. And I
think it will be well-received in the
community," she adds.
The end result is Yummy
Mummies 2007, a calendar featur
ing 10 local mothers pictured in var-
ious poses.
Photos range from a woman in a
bathtub, to women covered only by
strategically placed items such as a
laptop, Canadian flag and
Christmas gifts.
"I've had very good feedback," says
Sandra Jansen, of Seaforth, who's
director at the children's centreand
posed for the calendar.
"They (people who have seen the
calendar) think it's been 'well done
and commend us for the hard work,"
she adds.
Doyle says they wanted to come
up with a fundraiser different than
what the community is used to.
"We've hit the community for sev-
eral funds throughout the years. So
we wanted to give something in

exchange for their money," she adds.
They also wanted to . come up with
a fundraiser where the actual chil-
dren's centre .wouldn't have to do
anything, but accept a cheque.
Doyle says they want to make it
clear that the calendar is separate
from the children's centre.
"This (the calendar) is not repre-
sentative of the daycare. It's a
fundraiser where the money is for
the daycare," she says.
Doyle adds .they purposely left the
children's centres name off of the

calendar and they will not sell them
at the centre either.
And, as much as the calendar is
about raising money for the chil-
dren's centre, it's also about cele-
brating mothers' beauty.
"Once you have children you can
still be a .yummy mummy. You don't
have to be stick thin to be gor-
geous," says Doyle.
Eight of the 10 woman that posed
for the calendar, who range from
their mid 20s to late 30s in age, all
have children currently at the cen-
tre.
Doyle says once they had the idea,
finding women to pose was actually
quite easy.
"They were all very energetic and
enthusiastic," she says, adding she
wasn't surprised since the Seaforth
community has always shown great
support for the children's centre.
"Some of us didn't know each
other (in the beginning) but it was
good. We were all confident by the
end," adds Jansen.
"We got to know each other very
quickly, very intimately," jokes.
Doyle.
