Huron East receives support over Highway 8
Susan Hundertmark
Huron East council received support
from West Perth council recently in
its fight for improved conditions on
Highway 8, council learned at its
Nov 7 meeting.
Huron East received a copy of a
letter West Perth sent to Perth
Middlesex MPP John Wilkinson on
Oct. 12, sharing Huron East's con-
cerns about the condition of the
provincial highway.
"Council felt that without atten-
tion, the road would cause unneces-
sary hardship to travellers especial-
ly during the winter months," said
the letter.
"Council looks forward to response
to these concerns and to improved
conditions on the provincial high-
way 8," it said.
Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler told
Huron East council that he has
received a lot of phone calls com-
plaining about the condition of
Highway 8 and is still waiting for a
date from the province outlining
when the highway will be recon-
structed.
Steffler asked
Room for two more
full-time physicians in
Seaforth, says Cardinal
From Page 1
said the hospital staff has
been able to handle the
extra work load.
"It's been workable, but
it's not a desirable situa-
tion," she said, adding
that they would like to
have two more full-time
physicians in Seaforth.
Cardinal noted though,
not just physicians, but
nurses and all health care
related professions are
currently in short supply.
At a HPHA board meet-
ing recently in Clinton,
chief of staff Dr. Laurel
Moore stressed the impor-
tance of "word of mouth"
promotion' when it comes
to recruitment.
"From a locum perspec-
tive, we've had quite a few
participants come in. As
for full-time physicians,
we're starting to see a few,
but they're not huge num-
bers," she said.
Around 27 residents ..
arrived in Stratford this
past Friday for the three-
day event, which featured
a welcome reception, guest
speakers, community
tours and a gala dinner
with entertainment.
Guest residents repre-
sented a variety of special-
ties, including family med-
icine, radiology, psychia-
try, general surgery and
internal medicine.
Around 100 people
attended the gala
Saturday evening in
Stratford, including local
hospital board officials,
MPs, MPPs and municipal
politicians.

"I haven't talked to anyone who

said.
Issue of policing in Egmondville
raised at council meeting
Huron East council received a let-
ter from Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell asking the municipality to
look into a concern about a lack of
policing in Egmondville.
Mitchell said in the letter that a
resident of Egmondville, Patti
Geldhof, called her to complain that
people are driving the wrong way on
a one-way street in Egmondville
and she hasn't seen a police cruiser
since spring.
"She has also taken the time to
count up to 22 vehicles travelling
the wrong direction and feels that
there will be a bad accident if some-
thing is not done soon," said the let-
ter.
Clerk -Administrator Jack
McLachlan said the letter would be
referred to the citizens' police advi-
sory board.
