"We had a pretty strong response in Seaforth (this year)," says Papple, adding with increased donations, Seaforth was able to collect more items than some larger towns, like Exeter and Wingham. Over 25 businesses throughout Huron County participated in the campaign, collecting gently used winter coats and outer wear in October. Nearly 1,500 items were collected in Huron County, while over 400 items were collected alone in Huron East at Pete's Paper -Clip, Papple's Garden Centre and Produce Stand, Seaforth Public Library, Seaforth Sewing Centre and St. Thomas Anglican Church, in Seaforth, and Brussels Foodland and D and d D Variety, in Hensall. Nov. 3 was the distribution day in Seaforth, Brussels, Exeter, Goderich . -ate. 1'* .. , and Wingham, while on Nov 4 the remaining items were distributed in Clinton. Over 500 items were distributed over the two days in Huron County, 126 of which went to those in- need in Huron East. The remainder of the items went to local second-hand stores. "The program is an excellent example of Huron County residents helping their own community," says Papple, noting that the campaign would not have been nearly as suc- cessful without the help of the 38 volunteers, 13 of. which were in Huron East. Papple says it is difficult to make an accurate comparison to the pro- gram over the past three years, since in 2004 and 2005, Huron County received 200 new backpacks filled with school supplies from Wal- Mart to give out to children. Also, in 2004, the Red Cross received & large donation of new items from the United Way. "A -lot of parents came for the backpacks and- ended, up picking up a coat," says Papple, who notes Huron County distributed around 800 items in 2005. "That will be reflected in the num- bers," she adds. * Agricultural * Residential * Commercial * Pole Line Construction Retsdet 1014040 ELECTRIC R.R. #4 Seaforth, Ont.
