to support Huron Christmas Bureau
Susan H u n d e r t m a r k
The Huron County Christmas
Bureau will get a boost next week
as community newspapersacross
the county take part in the
Christmas bag program for the
ninth year.
In next week's Huron Expositor,
subscribers will find a brown paper
bag sponsored by the newspaper
and several businesses and indus-
tries.
Printed on the bag, along with
sponsor information, are details of
where each of the county bureaus
are located and times, gifts and food
can be dropped off.
It also provides information for
people who may need help this
Christmas on how to reach the
bureau and register.
Each year, the bureau collects
food and gifts that assist more than
1,000 children and their families
across the county.
Spearheaded by the Seaforth
Huron Expositor, the Seaforth Lions
Club and the Seaforth Agricultural
Society, newspapers across the
county joined forces to promote the
use of the bags.
The Christmas Bureau served 977
children and their families in 2005,
110 fewer children but before last
year, numbers had been rising since
2000.
Poverty statistics in Huron
County, according to 2001 statistics
show that 645 families in Huron
County earn less than $10,000 a
year with another 1,420 families
with annual incomesof less than
$20,000.
They also show 2,665 children
under age 18 living in low income
households, 1,580 of them being
raised by single parents.

The Ontario Power Authority takes away your opportunity to renewable energy.
On November 8th, 2006 the OPA announced total restrictions to the Standard Offer Program
eliminating every Wind, solar, biomass and hydro project in the counties of Bruce, Grey,_ Huron,
Perth, Middlesex, Wellington, Lambton as well as parts of Chatham Kent.
The OPA proposes that:
➢ Nuclear power in the future is more important than green energy today even though only a
fraction of Ontario's population supports the expansion of nuclear plants
➢ You can no longer choose your electricity future as you can no longer be part of
community-based generation projects or even operate your own projects
This would signify that:
Farmers, landowners and stakeholders, as well as the municipalities themselves stand to
lose millions of dollars in investments and revenue
➢ By limiting the expansion of renewable projects today, the government is continuing to
add to our pollution levels
Dwight Duncan, the Minister of Energy, and your MPP need to hear from you. They need to
know that you are not happy with these restrictions and tell the Minister or your MPP that the
OPA does not have the right to determine your electricity future.
Their commitment to you has been broken. Take Action lbday!
