"We need to let people know where we are," Seili said. Maloney said he was most sur- prised by the Seaforth and McKillop results since he was expecting to win both wards and only winning in Seaforth by a slight margin. "My best polls are in. I figured I` would do better in Seaforth. I needed Seaforth," he said. Maloney said he spent $2,500 on signs, advertising and election mate- rial and believed the response he. received while campaigning was pos- itive. "But, it didn't turn out that way tonight," he said. Maloney said his political career is now over and he is considering doing some travelling in his; retirement. Huron East does not support resolution to speed up review of provincial municipal services Susan Hundertmark Huron East will not support a res- olution from Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman asking the province to speed up a review of provincial - municipal services. "The previous government was no friend of ours and he was a part of it. I'm not sure this isn't a bit of horn -tooting," said Grey Coun. Alvin McLellan. Hardeman's resolution asked the province to look at the increasing costs to municipalities when deliver- ing services. "Our party (the Conservatives) understands that since then (a review 10 years ago) the cost of delivering services has increased substantially and municipalities have been left with the additional costs. We understand the pressures that our municipalities are facing and the difficult choices you are left with - to raise property taxes or cut services to try and make ends meet," said Hardeman's letter to council. Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath asked if rural municipali- ties would have good representation. during the proposed review. "He's trying to get them to speed it up but it takes five minutes to put a rule on the books and 25 years to take it off. We can't afford the rules they have now plus the downloading to property taxes," said McGrath. Clerk -Administrator Jack McLachlan said Hardeman has a good rural background and should be aware of rural issues. Story Idea?
