Steffler
angry with
garbage left
at Harpurhey
compost site
Seaforth Coun. Joe
Steffler told Huron
East council on Nov. 7
that he was enraged to
find garbage bags left
at the Harpurhey
compost facility over
the weekend.
"I found four garbage
bags, some of them
filled with used oil
filters and my blood
pressure went up to
400," he said.
Steffler, who led the
move to keep the
compost facility located
in Harpurhey, said ht
retrieved a name after
digging through the
garbage and will pass
the name onto
administration so that
some consequences can
be determined for
whomever left the
garbage.
"What really upsets
me is we discuss it and
discuss it and this is
not a garbage site.
Everyone can pay $10
and take their garbage
to the Mid -Huron
landfill site," he said.

Huron East has 31.7 per cent
turn -out at polls Monday
Susan Hundertmark
Huron East saw 31.7 per cent of eligible
voters turn out at the polls during
Monday's municipal election.
Of Huron East's five wards, Brussels had
the top voter turn -out with 46.4 per cent,
followed by McKillop at 39.73 per cent,
Seaforth at 35.05 per cent, Grey at 26 per
cent and Tuckersmith at 23.5 per cent.
While the top vote -getter in McKillop was
happy to win, political veteran Bill Siemon
was low-key about the victory.
"After 20 years of municipal politics, you
don't get too excited. I'm not totally
surprised. A lot of people said `You'd win'
but it's never over until it's over," he said.
Siemon received 302 votes with Andrew
Flowers also winning a seat representing
McKillop with 187 votes. Jim Floyd came in
third with 137 votes.

Seili wins
decisive
victory with
1,586
votes
" • It was an early night for
.Huron East's mayoralty
candidates as Joe Seili won a
decisive 1,586 -vote victory to
Lou Maloney's 923 in Monday's
municipal election.
By 8:45 p.m., when .the final
polls in• Seaforth and
Tuckersmith and advance polls
in the rest of Huron East
showed 766 votes for Seili and
644 for Maloney, Maloney knew
he was beaten.
"I'm going home to start my
retirement," he said as heleft
the council chambers in
Seaforth where the results were
being displayed.
In Brussels, where Seili and
the northern councillors met to
watch the results roll in, Seili
was calmly matter-of-fact about
the victory.
"I didn't get much time to
campaign. I still had .to run
Huron East and go to Huron
County council meetings while
the election was going on," he
said.
Seili said that he was feeling
support from voters at
community functions and while
visiting area farms through his
business Huron Feeding
Systems.
While he only won by 16 votes
in the 2003 election, Seili said
this time, voters knew him
better.
"I feel as welcome in Seaforth
as I do in Brussels," added his
wife Deb.
Seili said he is going to "do
what I said I'm going to do and
I encourage councillors to do the
same, money permitting."
