success
Huron Perth
Healthcare Alliance
(HPHA) is praising the
communities of Clinton
and Seaforth for
raising more than
$75,000 in the fifth
annual Health Care
Heroes Radiothon.
"The amount of
volunteer effort and
time that goes into
making the radiothon a
success locally is
significant.
Congratulations to all
involved," Andrew
Williams said during
the Nov. 2 HPHA board
meeting.
Clinton Public
Hospital received a
$27,000 boost and
Seaforth Community
Hospital collected more
than $43,000 in the
Oct. 21 fundraiser.
This year's donations
will be used to fund the
new Picture Archiving
Communication System
(PACS) set to "go live"
at both hospitals in the
new year.

Huron East Mayor Joe
Seili says he can be "a little
rough around the edges."
But, the self-made
business owner, two-time
president of the Brussels
Optimists and politician of
12 years adds he "likes to
look at all sides, make a
decision and get things
done."
"As mayor, I know it's a
'we' rather than an `I.'
Council makes the decisions.
The mayor only leads council
and tries to keep things in
order," he says.
Looking back on the last
three years as mayor, Seili
says council has been
watching its budget very
closely, trying to get the best
deal for ratepayers on road
and sidewalk construction.
"We can't spend $1.10 for
every $1 we bring in so it's
nice to get value for the
dollar. We're starting to see
economies of scale," he says,
of the Huron East's wards
cooperating to get larger jobs
done by waiting their turns.
That cooperation between
wards was one of his goals
when he became mayor in -
2003.

As a retired
businessperson, Lou
Maloney says he has "all
kinds of time" to serve as
Huron East's mayor.
"I'll listen to people and I
want to get along. Right
now the municipality's a
little divided and I want to
listen to people and bring it
back to a happy
community," he says.
Maloney, who has 22
years' experience on
councils in Hibbert
Township, West Perth and
Huron East and owns the
Seaforth Laundromat and
is part-owner of the
Seaforth Bake Shop, says
his approachability is one of
his best attributes.
"I like to be fair to
everybody and I've a
personality I think people
trust," he says.
During his three years as
Seaforth councillor,
Maloney says he's mostly
been a team player but did
take the lead pushing for
water and sewer servicing
on Ord and Louisa Streets
to open up the land for
development.
"I was an instigator but it
was a council decision," he
says.
He adds he was one of the
