Members learn of dangerous plants
Seaforth and District
Horticultural Society met
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at
Northside United Church.
Janny Streutker wel-
comed everyone, read a
poem "Thanksgiving" and
called on Eleanor Horst to
introduce speaker Sue
Van Baasdroyk, a master
gardener speaking on
"dangerous plants."
She talked about plants
that are dangerous to our
pets, including inside
plants, cactus, poinsettia,
mistletoe, philodendron,
and out-
s i d e
plants,
azaleas,
daffodils,
tulips, rhubarb, mush-
rooms and horse chesnuts.
Even a cocoa bean mulch,
if eaten, can kill a dog.
Beatrice Stoll read min-
utes of September's meet-
ing and also a thank you
from Bob Fisher for
Communities in Bloom.
Dilys Finnigan gave the
treasurer's report. Nancy
Kale reported on Ciderfest

some leftover things to the
meeting to sell.
It was moved by Olave
Little and seconded by
Peg DeJong that we give a
wreath for Nov 11. Janny
will carry the wreath.
There is a board meet-
ing in McKay Centre in
Goderich on Oct. 28.
Helen McNaughton has
banquet tickets for the
Nov. 8 meeting. We have
to have at least 50 people
attend. .
There is a silent auction
at the convention in Owen
Sound in 2007 and we are
to take things.
Ruth Smith and Onah
Stackhouse served lunch.
Door prize winners were
Helen McLean, Vi
Glanville and Marie
Thomas.
