Pictured is the CHSS girs' golf team. They are, from left to right, Robyn Doig, of
Seaforth, Courtney Bennett., also of Seaforth, . coach Jim Cooke, Alysia
Johnston, and Keegan Johnston. Doig will be advancing to OFSAA to represent
CHSS next May.

After a busy summer of golf, com-
peting in both Tyson and Optimist
tournaments, Robyn Doig never had
any doubt about whether or not she
would join the Central Huron
Secondary School girls' golf team.
Doig, 14, who is in her first year at
CHSS, recently qualified for
OFSAA, after finishing third in both
the regional and WOSSA tourna-
ments.
"I knew that I wanted to be on it
(the golf team)," says Doig, in a
recent phone interview from her
Seaforth home, adding that this was
the first year in a while that CHSS
offered a girls' team, and it was an
opportunity she wasn't about to

pass up.
Along with her friend, Courtney
Bennett, also of Seaforth, the girls
made up half of the school's team -
which with four members, was the
minimum required to compete.
At the regionals in Goderich, at the
Sunset Golf Club, Doig shot an 85 -
good for third overall.
"It was alright. The greens were
tough," recalls Doig, who says she
had played the course before, but
not often.
As a team, CHSS finished first
overall.
At WOSAA, which was also held at
the Sunset Golf Club in Goderich,
the CHSS team finished fourth, just
missing out on qualifying for
OFSAA.
However, Doig improved her game
by two strokes to shoot an 83 - plac-
ing third again and taking the final
spot in OFSAA qualifying.
"I knew sort of where to not be on
the course," she says of her second
round in Goderich in recent weeks.
"But I still made small mistakes
that could have been fixed. But I
guess I was pretty happy to have
qualified," she adds, noting that she
is still very proud of the team's per-
formance as well.
"The teams we were competing
against had a lot of older players,"
she notes, adding she recognized
many of the other golfers from tour-
naments she competed in through-
out the summer.
The OFSAA golf competition does
not take place until May and Doig
says she hopes to hit the links for
some practising as soon as the
spring arrives.
