ogy this fall.
With a total
fundraising goal
of $563,283, the
Seaforth
Community
Hospital
Foundation is
beginning to
raise money for
Seaforth's share -
of the PACS pro-
ject by aiming
for $50,000 dur-
ing this week-
end's CKNX
Health. Care
Heroes
Radiothon.
"We think
$50,000 isa rea-
sonable target
for a single
event but it is ..
only a portion of
the overall goal.
I don't know
how many cam-
paigns we're
going to need to
raise the whole
amount," says
SCH Foundation
chair Ron
Lavoie.

time the
fundraising
begins, the
Alliance. is
bringing the
new technology
online this fall,

move to digi-
tal imaging
is part of a
national plan
to have the
whole coun-
try linked by
Canada
Health
Infoway.
"It's quite
widespread
already and
we are one of
the last to
get it," she
says, adding
that the
Thames Valley
group, Sarnia -
area hospitals
and the Listowel
and Wingham
partnership all
installed PACS
systems a few
years ago.
The PACS
technology will
allow diagnostic
tests, including
nuclear medi-

x-rays and ultra-
sounds to be pro-
duced with digi-
tal images,
which can then
be transferred
electronically.
While a local
network con -
nects the four
Alliance hospi-
tals Alexandra
Marine and
General
Hospital in
Goderich and
South Huron
Hospital in
Exeter, the
system will
allow connec-
tions to hos-
p i t a 1 s
throughout
Southwestern
Ontario and
eventually
Canada.
If an x-ray is
taken in
Seaforth, the
image can
almost immedi-
ately be sent to
a specialist in
London or
Stratford or any-
where else
