Because a flood years ago in what
was then the Seaforth high school
basement which destroyed all of its
records, organizers of the Seaforth
and District All -Girls' Marching
Band are having a tough time track-
ing down its former members.
But, they're hoping to reach as
many former band members as pos-
sible for a 50 -year anniversary-
reunion
nniversaryreunion on Saturday, June 9 at the
Seaforth Public School.
"If you used to play an instru'
ment, come jam with us and we'll
have a mini parade;" says marching
band executive member. Sharon
Thompson..
While the band continues to
struggle financially, Thompson says
the band: does not want tognore its
50th anniversary.
But, an' organizational': meeting
last week at- Seaforth Public School
only drew one volunteer
She's hoping more will';attend the
next meeting. on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at
SPS's French room.
Thompson adds that along with
t -
thegood time of reminiscing and
looking at old photographs, the
executive is hoping to develop a list
of band alumni who could be can-
vassed for fundraising to help with
the band's ongoing costs.
"Hundreds of girls and women
have been in this band but right
now, we have no way of getting
ahold of them," she says, adding it's
even tougher to track down women
since they often change their names
when married.
The all -girls' band currently has
45 members and is planning a trip
this year to Nashville in March
after the dozen Santa Claus parades
it performs in each year.
"These girls work very hard and
march . in some pretty chilly
parades. Travel istheir reward and
we have to fundraise for that," says
Thompson.
The next fundraiser is a spaghetti
supper and silent auction in
Holmesville b Npv, .12.
