Joe Looby, chairman of the church's building committee, says a study and condition report was conducted on. the 105 -year-old building a cou- ple of years ago, which sug- gested the building's beams be reinforced. "This is similar to what other (older) churches are doing," says Looby, adding that St. Patrick's, like many other churches built around the turn of the century, has an open design, which now needs to be "tightened up," by inserting tie rods into the beams. All ofthe work is being done . by Allan Avis Architects Inc., in Goderich and Bronnenco Construction Ltd., in Ilderton. Looby says they are also having the roof reshingled, °- r.i!! , ' t' iritegam: noting that the old shingles had reached their life expectancy. He adds they've also com- pleted some related brick work and built new posts for the basement. While the building commit- tee is waiting a couple more weeks before announcing the final costs on the construc- tion, Looby says all of the money was raised through donations from the church's parishioners over the past year and that the church is still within its budget. i`_ Jeff Heuchert photo Ron Bennett (left) and Jeff Graham (right), of Bronnenco Construction Ltd., work on reshingling the roof of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dublin -last Wednesday morning. * Agricultural * Residential • Commercial * Pole Line Construction ELECTRIC R.R. #4 Seaforth, Ont.
