Huron Expositor, 2006-09-27, Page 35Correspondence Coffee Break raises $261 Queensway Nursing and Retirement Residence's Coffee Break for the Huron County Alzheimer Society Thursday, Sept. 21 was a suc- cess, raising $261 for the cause. In the afternoon Cathy Ritsema, executive director of Alzheimer Huron gave a pre- sentation about the services, that the society provides. Residents benefitted on Monday from the services of Lori Burt, registered massage therapist. Hensall Presbyterian women provided assistance and prizes for Bingo Monday afternoon with a good crowd that turned out to try their luck at the game. • 011('(`11sw111N Nursing and Iictil°cnwnt Iloitl(' Tuesday morning breakfast group participants met over eggs, bacon, toast and fruit with volunteer Kay Mock assisting. Tuesday afternoon, Pastor Harry Frielink led worship with Belva Fuss as volunteer pianist. His message was about the importance of prayer. Wednesday was a busy day with the usual Fun and Fitness in the morning and in the afternoon volunteer Donna Smale was in to orga- nize the euchre games. Several residents alsomet for baking group to stir up a batch of applesauce oatmeal cookies to serve at the Alzheimer Coffee Break planned for Thursday. In the evening, residents gathered in the lounge to hear volunteer Carol Lebeau play a wonderful repertoire of songs on her keyboard. Several residents sang along and there was some beautiful harmony happening. Friday morning exercises and quiz games helped resi- dents work out their bodies and minds. In the afternoon ladies benefitted from some extra pampering with hand soaks, nail care and fresh pol- ish. Legion holds first generalmeeting The first general meeting of the Seaforth Legion was held on Sept. 21 and five new members were initiated. They included Doug Jones as an ordinary member, Chris Cardno, Conrad Burns, Jerry Feeney as associates and Greg Medd as a non-voting affiliate. The new members were welcomed to the branch. We were at Parkwood Hospital_ on Saturday, Sept. 23 and the response for sup- plies for the vet- erans from all the Branches of Zone . C-1 was wonderful. The veterans were all brought to the auditorium and a program was enjoyed. Comrade June does a great job in recruiting tal- ent and each was given his bag of supplies. The veterans' banquet will be held in Hensall on Oct. 29 and if you can go, please contact Comrade Gord at 519-522- 0474 or Comrade Paul at 519-522- 0121. Zone cribbage is on Oct. 21 at Branch 307, Howick. If you can go, sign up at the branch.
