Million hopes to implement
new training techniques
From Page 20
She is also hoping to greatly
improve the club's website -
www.huron-hurricanes.ca - which
currently only displays a team
photo.
She said she would like infor-
mation such as training timeta-
bles, sign-up sheets and a weekly
newsletter, to be available on the
website.
Million added she is looking for
someone to help design the web-
site and help maintain it. Anyone
interested can contact her at 524-
4853.
During her time in England,
Million said she learned many
new drills and trainingtech-
niques, not commonly used here,
that she is also hoping to incorpo-
rate into the Hurricane's prac-
tices.
"I'm hoping the theory I bring is
effective with these kids. 1 was
very successful there (in England)
and I'm hoping to bring that suc-
cess here."

"This is a way tb give back to the
community," notes Marion, adding

Luckily for them, Mariion says
playing in your own backyard does
offer its advantages.
"Knowing the course makes a
huge difference. So we should be the
team to beat," he says.
On. the other hand, Bennett says
playing on home court will add some
unwanted pressure.
"We want to represent our town -
our Legion," he adds.

Curling Club plans to keep leasing
Susan Hundertmark
Vanastra Curling Club would like
to continue leasing its building from
Huron East rather than buying it,
representatives told Huron East
council at its Sept. 19 meeting.
"Our members don't want the
ownership of the building. We're
happy paying rent. We don't want
the extra costs of insurance," curling
club president Dave Townsend told
council.
The question of whether Vanastra
Club wanted to own its facility came
up at a previous meeting when
Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan
contemplated the club's request to
renew its lease for another five
years.
"We're investigating could it work
and would you like to buy the build-
ing for $1," he told Townsend.
MacLellan said the issue of own-
ership first came up a few years ago
when the club needed to replace its
ice -making equipment and came to
council for assistance.
"The discussion got around to hav-
ing rec centres in Vanastra,
Seaforth and Brussels and the ques-
tion came down to why keep it (the
Vanastra Curling Club) as a munici-
pal operation," he recalled.
Townsend said the curling club,
which is run by. volunteers, has put
a lot of money into the building and.
its equipment, but still wants to
rent.
After raising $49,000 - $29,000 of
which came from the Trillium
Foundation and $20,000 of which
came from the club's fundraising -
for the cooling system, Townsend
said the next project will be raising
$20,000 to resurface its rocks.
"We're hoping to go to Trillium for
that as well. It's half the price of a
new set," he said.
Townsend told council that the
curling club provides a number of
benefits to the Vanastra community
and provides free space for school
groups as part of its lease agree-
ment.
Tuckersmith Coun. Larry
McGrath asked if there's any way of
recovering some f the damages
from the school board but Townsend
said that 'without a club manager,
none of the volunteers have time to
pursue the problem.
"We don't have the manpower or
the ambition," he said.
When McGrath suggested Huron
East contact the school board as the
building's owner, Townsend suggest-
ed the club will try sending a letter
listing past damage to the schools
and 'asking teachers to supervise the
students more closely in the future.
