Seaforth bantams fall to
Usborne in two tough games
Jeff Heuchert
The Seaforth bantam ball team
finished their season recently, just
two wins shy of capturing the B
championship.
After a 4-4-5 regular season, the
bantams knocked out Holmesville
in three games to. advance to the
best -of -three B championship
against Usborne.
Coach Sandra Wilson says Game
1 was a hard fought battle in
which Usborne took advantage of
an early lead to win 10-5.
Game 2 shifted to Kirkton, how-
ever the result was quite similar,
as Usborne defeated Seaforth 10-6
to win the B championship.
"We had slow starts to both
games," says Wilson, who adds
that their hitters struggled
against Usborne's pitchers.
Wilson says their loss in Game 2
was much more difficult to swal-
low because her players did not hit
as well as she thought they were
able: to against the opposing pitch-
er.
Wilson adds that they also com-
mitted too many errors in the
early innings of Game 2 and
Usborne was able to build, what
would turn out to be an insur-
mountable lead, off of those mis-
takes.
"We were down right off the
start. Eight of their 10 runs came
in the first two innings. They got
nothing in the last two innings,"
says Wilson.
She adds her players should be
very proud of the team's results,
and commends them all for stay-
ing committed to the team while
having many other ,outside com-
mitments.

ens' sIou.pitch league
finishes over weekend
tournament of Lions Park
Jeff Heuchert
The Seaforth mens' slo-pitch
league finished up its season over
three days this past weekend with a
series of games at Lions Park.
On Sunday the Patriots defeated
the Alers to win the A division,
while the Ringling Brothers defeat-
ed the Outsiders to capture the B
division.
"It was an excellent season," says
league president and Ringling
Brothers' player Lorne Teatero.
With eight teams competing in the
league since early May, Teatero says
the league will expand to at least 10
teams next season, but that he's
hoping to expand to 12 teams.
"We're getting sick of playing the
same teams each year," he jokes,
noting that the same eight teams
have been competing in the league
for the past six or seven years.
Teatero adds that anyone over the
age of 18 interested in playing or
putting together a team can contact
him at 482-3500.
