"This is excellent news for our local tourism industry,".Mitchell said. "I am proud the Ontario gov- ernment is partnering with the Shakespeare to' the Shoreline. travel expe- rience to promote what local communities have to offer visitors." Shakespeare to the Shoreline consists of themed travel ideas, fea- tured in a travel brochure, which is marketed to nearby urban centres in Ontario. It is a fun and light-hearted, yet educa- tional, journey from the Hamlet of Shakespeare through Small rural com- munities along Highway 8, including Huron East, to shoreline communities of Lake Huron. The themed trips encourage visitors to explore the area by 'car with overnight extended stays. An online version of the brochure is accessible for downloading and printing by travellers before they set out on their trips. "The strategic commit- tee members of the Shakespeare to the Shoreline Travel project appreciate the funding support from the Ministry's Industry Partnership Proposal Program. This funding will assist us in reaching out to our target markets, to welcome urban travel- ers to our wonderful area, and to build further awareness in the region, inviting our own residents to be explorers in their own backyards."said Cathy Rehberg, Tourism Stratford, and Strategic Committee Member. Three new cases of West Nile discovered in Huron County Three more cases of the West Nile Virus have been found in Huron County. A recent press release from the Huron County Health Unit confirms that three crows found in -Credition, Exeter and Goderich each tested posi- tive for the virus. All three were picked up by the health unit's West Nile Virus surveillance program. Public health inspector Paul Dawson says they are encouraging residents and visitors to the county to report dead blue jays and crows to the health unit. "However, says Dawson, we will no longer be col- lecting birds for testing this year, as we're now sure West Nile Virus is established in our county." The press release goes on to say that it's normal to see an increase in birds carrying West Nile in late summer and that all areas in Ontario are seeing a similar trend. "We really encourage you to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites," says Dawson, who recommends wearing insect repellent containing DEET and to clean up standing water around your home. Dawson adds that posi- tive birds have been found in Huron County in previ- ous years as well.
