Vice president Bliss Baker attend- ed Bluewater _ council Aug. 8 to give the news Greenfield's board approved the sizeable contribution, bringing the $120 million plant one step closer to reality. "We have approval," said Baker, "We're prepared to cough up our share...you win." Baker said there were a few requests from Greenfield, including that they be able to have an engi- neer test the veracity of the num- bers, negotiate an industrial water rate and have some sort of timeline from council as to when an RFP (request for proposal) would be issued and construction begin. Mayor Bill Dowson said there would be no problem with an engi- neer double checking the numbers, as "everyone wants to know whether it's fair." Councillor -at -large Jim Fergusson assured Baker the RFP would be issued in a matter of weeks, with replies expected by .the end of September (when the exact cost of the line will be known). Fergusson said work would be set to begin in December, with a condi- tion of the RFP likely to say it will be completed by Dec. 2007. Baker said the timeline would work well for Greenfield. He added it was never a question of being unfair, as the company knows the ratepayers are only prepared to bear so much of an increase. And although other communities weren't in the situation of needing water, Hensall had many important things to offer, including labour, the Hensall Co-op and rail. He said non-financial issues wan the day. "We'll await a copy of a draft . water agreement," he said. You can travel right away with Bonus TQ Points Receive 7,500 Bonus TD Points upon approval.
